First, he will read his poetry and translations of works by the French writer Colette in the Athenaeum from 4-5 pm. Refreshments will be served.
This will be followed by a staged reading of his new play Tangled Love. Tangled Love tells the story of Japanese poet Yosano Akiko (1878-1942), who modernized traditional five-line Tanka poetry by adding contemporary themes and imagery. She wrote more than 50,000 poems and eleven books of prose in her lifetime, including a translation of the classic Tale of Genji into modern Japanese. Rogow’s play tells the story of Akiko’s life and career and features a number of her poems in both Japanese and in English.
The staged reading will start at 7:00 pm in Little Nourse Theater. A talkback with the playwright and cast will follow the production. Run time is 90 minutes.
