Claire PThe Miscellany introduces a new feature this term – fashion profiles! This should of course come as a surprise to no one – historically, students of English literature are known to be responsible for groundbreaking fashion trends.

This week, The Miscellany presents…

Claire Pennington

1. What are you wearing right now?

A. Black corduroy skinnies, leather boots, and my favorite blazer.

2. How would you describe your style?

A. Alternately comfy and chic.

3. What’s your favorite piece of clothing and why?

A. In general, I favor things people have given me. First place goes to the colorfully patterned, wonderfully cozy scarf my sister bought me when she studied abroad in college; second place goes to the beige one my mom gave me for Christmas last year.

Claire P4. What’s your favorite fashion decade?

A. The 1920’s. But that might just be the jazz and the modernism talking.

5. If you could adopt any literary character’s style, who would it be and why?

A. I’m curious about what Joelle van Dyne’s style (Infinite Jest) would be like. I’m thinking neat, tailored choices with a bit of edge, consequently making them somewhat inappropriate to the situation. Then again, didn’t Gatsby have some guy whose sole job was to buy him shirts in France? ‘Cause I could go for somebody like that.

6. What inspires your style?

A. Honestly, I just wear what feels comfortable to me. Some days, that means dressing up to write a paper; other days, it means writing that same paper in my coziest clothes, with some hot chocolate.
